Uniquely Chinatown
Uniquely Chinatown Collection is inspired by the unique wooden window of the shophouses. To the designer, it is reminiscent of the traditional talent and virtue of the women of a gone era.
She used to stay in shophouse with her family when she was young. Well-versed in sewing and embroidery, her late grandmother would sit beside the wooden window to make dresses, pillow cases and stitched blankets for her and her siblings. Her grandmother would usually make use of the natural light during the day to diligently carry out her acts of love for them.
As such, light that passes through the window frame takes on a new meaning to her, and never fails to remind her of the strong character of woman of the past. This has become an inspiration for her to come up with the Uniquely Chinatown Collection. It is hoped that through this window, people will be reminded of the skills and values that we have long forgotten.
Working in Chinatown herself, the designer is able to observe its beauty at a closer distance as an adult and come to appreciate it even more. Her creation is therefore interwined with childhood memory as well as appreciation of its charm in this modern time.
